Block Two Practicum
- When: Spring 2020
- School: Pioneer Elementary School in Bismarck, North Dakota
- Teacher: Lindsey Mock
- Grade: 5th
- 130 hours
- I developed and taught Reading, Science, Art, and Math Lessons in the 5th grade classroom.
- During my time I have attended an IEP meeting to learn more about how to differentiate for the students in my classroom. I also created a pre-assessment to gauge where my learners where, differentiated small group instruction based on the data, and gave a summative assessment at the end of the unit.
This lesson was the introductory lesson on Early Explorations in the 5th grade classroom. The students performed "deep sea dives" on sunken ships on the gym floor in order to discover items that might have been found during early explorations. We then categorized these items into 3 reasons for early explorations. I enjoyed this lesson because there was high engagement and inquiry from the students, I got to tie in movement and teamwork skills, and I learned how to better develop my classroom management skills by working with 40 students at one time.

Block One Practicum
- When: Fall 2019
- School: Shiloh Christian School in Bismarck, North Dakota
- Teacher: Kim Garrison
- Grade: 3rd
- I developed and taught Language Arts lessons in the 3rd grade classroom.
- 90 hours
- I worked with students in whole-class, small group, and one-on-one settings to develop and drive my instruction. I used assessments from students to differentiate my instruction and provided time for small group work to enhance student learning.
This lesson focused on forming regular past tense verbs, building off the prior lesson which covered all verb tenses. We reviewed the concepts of adding -d and -ed to most regular verbs, and learned how to apply double consonant-ed and -ied to other verbs, in order to make them past tense. Through this lesson I learned how to assess student work to re-direct my instruction and apply guided practice opportunities to better scaffold for my students.
